Why HIRE LOCAL Exists.

HIRE LOCAL started with a layoff.
After spending years working for a big company in Eastern Idaho, my friends and I were suddenly out of work. Like most people, I did what you’re “supposed” to do: I went to the big job boards.

What Happened After A Layoff

Chess Board and a hand holding a piece, kicking another piece on the black and white board illustrating what do you do after you apply for a job.

I created profiles, uploaded my resume, and applied for job after job on Indeed, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, and a few other platforms. I lost count of how many roles I clicked on and how many applications I submitted. Out of all those applications, maybe 2% sent a basic email saying I didn’t make it to the next step.

It felt like shouting into a global crowd and disappearing.
And then I realised that I wasn’t competing with other people in Eastern Idaho, but also with candidates from everywhere. For jobs that should have been local, I was one tiny dot in a worldwide pile. At the same time, I kept hearing from employers that they were frustrated, too. They were:

  • Getting flooded with applications from people who weren’t local.
  • Struggling to find candidates who could actually work in person.
  • Paying for job listings that didn’t translate into real, long-term hires.

The big platforms weren’t built for communities like ours. They were built for the whole world. HIRE LOCAL was created to change that.

HIRE LOCAL is also for Eastern Idaho employers who are:

  • Tired of sifting through applications from people who can’t work on-site.
  • Frustrated with global job boards that don’t understand local needs.
